Natural Homebirthing

Having been raised in traditional medicine and midwifery I had the same mindset that most medical personnel do. That we have to intervene, invade and mess with women to get her babies born. Very soon after finishing my nursing and midwifery training I left the US and spent three years in Belize Central America. I birthed babies in thatched-roofed Huts with little or no medical interventions and I found that those beautiful women birthed their babies just fine without interference from me. I was amazed at what a fine job these women did and at how well those precious babies responded to this type of birthing -- which was in the home and with out medical intervention.

I was a year into birthing these women in their home when I had this epiphany -- That women were designed for having babies! That birthing is a natural God ordained process her body is quite capable of handling. That pregnancy was not a disease process and did not need to be treated as if it were. This was profound to me because in my education I had been taught just the opposite. I knew at that moment that I wanted to continue to do home births when I returned to the U.S.

That is what I did after returning home from Belize. I apprenticed with a practicing home birth midwife in Nashville, Tennessee for two years and then started practicing on my own. I have been doing home birth for 26 years now and have enjoyed this very precious calling very much.

I was trained at Wildwood Hospital and Medical Missionary Institute, now called Wildwood Lifestyle Center and Hospital. I completed the Medical missionary nursing course in 1980 and the Midwifery course in 1982. I completed my LPN training in 1987.

I live and work on the campus of Wildwood Lifestyle Center and Hospital in Wildwood Georgia. Wildwood is just 10 miles southwest of Chattanooga Tennessee. I returned to Wildwood 5 years ago and live here with my wonderful Husband. I have one grown son that lives very close to me.

If you are considering having a natural home birth and are located in the Chattanooga area -- or within a 2 hour radius (e.g. Knoxville, TN; Nashville, TN; Atlanta, GA; etc.) I would love to be your midwife!
